How to remove yourself from people-search sites
If you can find your own record, so can anyone else. Here's why your information is out there and how to get it taken down.
Why your info is public
Most of what people-search sites show comes from public records (property filings, voter and court records, licenses) and data brokers that aggregate and resell them. You didn't post it — it accumulates automatically over years.
How the opt-out process generally works
- Find your record on the site.
- Submit an opt-out / removal request for that record.
- Confirm via email if the site asks.
- Wait for processing — timelines vary by site.

It's an ongoing job
Removing yourself from one site doesn't remove you everywhere — each broker is separate, and records can reappear as new public data is published. Realistically it's a recurring task: opt out of the big sites, then re-check periodically. Running your own report now and then is the easiest way to see what's currently out there.
