Privacy Policy
Effective: May 3, 2026 · Last updated: May 3, 2026
1. Who we are
PeopleOwl is operated by Loving Tree Technology LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. When this policy says "we," "us," or "PeopleOwl," it means Loving Tree Technology LLC operating the PeopleOwl mobile application and peopleowl.com website.
Contact: support@peopleowl.com
2. What this app is (and is not)
PeopleOwl is a public-records lookup tool. We aggregate information from public-records data providers and let you search for people by phone number, address, or name.
PeopleOwl is for general personal research — looking up an unknown caller, finding an old friend, checking who lives at an address. It is not a consumer reporting agency, and the information we provide is not a "consumer report" as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
You may not use PeopleOwl for:
- Employment screening or hiring decisions
- Tenant or housing screening
- Credit decisions
- Insurance underwriting
- Any other purpose covered by the FCRA
Using PeopleOwl for any of these purposes violates our Terms of Service and federal law.
3. What we collect from you
Account information
- Your Apple ID identifier (when you sign in with Apple)
- Your name and email if you choose to share them via Apple Sign In (you can choose to hide your email and Apple gives us a relay address instead)
- Account creation and last-active timestamps
Profile information you provide
The "You" tab inside the app lets you save your own first name, last name, phone number, and home address. We use this profile to:
- Greet you by name
- Pre-fill city and state in the Name search tab to give you tighter results
- Power the "Search yourself" buttons that show you what's publicly available about you
This information is optional. You can use the app fully without saving any profile data. You can edit or clear individual fields, or wipe your entire profile at any time, from the You tab. Profile data is stored on PeopleOwl's servers (not just your device) so it survives reinstalling the app or switching to a new phone.
If you delete your account, your profile data is wiped immediately as part of the deletion process.
Search information
- The searches you run (phone number, address, name)
- When you ran them
- Whether you unlocked the full report or viewed only the free preview
Purchase information
- Apple In-App Purchase transaction IDs
- Subscription status (active, expired, refunded)
- We do not see or store your credit card or payment information. Apple handles all payment processing.
Device information
- Approximate IP address (used for fraud prevention and rate limiting; not retained beyond 30 days)
- iOS version and app version (used for debugging)
What we do not collect
- Your contacts or address book
- Your location
- Your photos
- Your microphone or camera
- Behavioral tracking data for advertising purposes
4. Information about third parties (search results)
When you run a search, our data providers return information about a person who is not you. This is the core of what PeopleOwl does, and we want to be clear about it.
The information about the people you search comes from public records, including:
- Voter registration rolls
- Property and deed records
- Court records (where publicly available)
- Phone directory listings
- Business registrations
- Self-reported public information from social media and other public web sources
We obtain this information from licensed data providers, including Enformion (operated by Enformion, LLC) and Google search results via SerpApi.
We cache search results for up to 90 days to make repeat searches faster and to reduce data-provider costs. After 90 days, the cached result is automatically deleted.
If you are not a PeopleOwl user but your information appears in our search results and you would like it removed, see our opt-out page.
5. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Run your searches and show you results
- Track your search credit balance
- Verify your Apple In-App purchases
- Prevent fraud and abuse (rate limiting, anomaly detection)
- Comply with legal obligations (responding to subpoenas, for example)
- Communicate with you about your account or service
We do not:
- Sell your personal information to third parties
- Share your search history with anyone except as required by law
- Use your information to train AI models
- Display ads to you based on your activity
6. How we share information
We share information only in these specific cases:
Service providers we use to operate PeopleOwl
- Enformion (data provider — receives the search query you run, returns matching records)
- SerpApi (Google search proxy — receives the search query, returns public web search results)
- Anthropic (AI service — receives search results to parse and structure them)
- Apple (handles your account identity and payments)
- Our hosting provider (stores the database)
Each of these has its own privacy policy and processes your data according to its own terms.
Legal compliance
- We may share information in response to a valid legal process (subpoena, court order, search warrant)
- We may share information to enforce our Terms of Service or to protect rights, property, or safety
Business changes
If PeopleOwl is sold or merged, your information would transfer to the new owner under the same privacy terms.
We do not share your information for targeted advertising, marketing by other companies, or data brokerage.
7. How long we keep your information
- Account data: as long as you have an account, plus 30 days after deletion (to allow purchase reconciliation)
- Search history: as long as you have an account; you can delete individual searches at any time within the app
- Cached search results: up to 90 days, then automatically purged
- Purchase records: 7 years (required for tax and accounting)
- IP addresses for fraud prevention: 30 days
- Server logs: 30 days
8. Your rights as a user
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we have about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Opt out of any marketing emails (though we don't currently send any)
- Withdraw consent for data processing
To exercise any of these rights:
- Account deletion: go to Settings → Delete Account in the app
- All other requests: email support@peopleowl.com
We will respond to your request within 30 days. Verification may be required to protect your account.
9. If your information appears in our results
If you are not a PeopleOwl user, but information about you appears when someone uses PeopleOwl to search, you can request that we remove it from future search results.
To submit an opt-out request, visit peopleowl.com/legal/opt-out.
You will need to provide:
- Your name
- At least one of: phone number, email address, or street address you want suppressed
We will verify the request (typically by sending a confirmation email) and process valid opt-outs within 30 days.
Important — what an opt-out does and doesn't do:
- An opt-out suppresses the specific data points you submit (a particular phone number, email, or address). It does not suppress your name itself or any other identifying detail.
- If your information changes — you get a new phone, move to a new address, change your name — that new information may appear in future searches. We have no way to track changes to your data automatically. You would need to submit a new opt-out for the new information.
- Opting out does not remove your information from public records or from our data providers' databases. It only prevents the specific data points you submit from appearing in PeopleOwl search results going forward.
- Opting out of PeopleOwl does not affect any other people-search service.
To remove your information from public records themselves, you would need to contact the relevant government agency or data broker directly. Comprehensive ongoing removal across multiple people-search services typically requires a paid service like DeleteMe or Kanary.
10. California residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):
- Right to know what personal information we collect
- Right to delete personal information
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information
- Right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell your data)
- Right to limit use of "sensitive personal information" (we do not use sensitive categories beyond what's necessary to operate the service)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights
To exercise these rights, contact support@peopleowl.com.
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
11. Children
PeopleOwl is rated 18+ and not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact support@peopleowl.com and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you in the app and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of PeopleOwl after changes means you accept the revised policy.
