How to reconnect with an old friend or lost relative

People move, change numbers, and change names — but the trail they leave in public records usually still connects. Here's how to follow it.

Start with what you know

Enter their name on the search page. Add the last city or state you knew them in — even an old one helps narrow a common name to the right person.

Use relatives to confirm

Not sure which record is them? The relatives and associates on each record are often the giveaway — a familiar family member's name confirms you've got the right person even if the city or age looks off.

Follow the address trail

Records list past addresses in rough time order. If their current contact info looks stale, an older address can point you to a relative who's still reachable — a good way back in when someone's own number has changed.

Then reach out

Once you've confirmed the right record, use the most recently seen mobile number or email. If those are old, a relative's current info is often the most reliable bridge.
