Reverse phone lookup: how it works
A reverse lookup flips a normal search around: instead of a name, you start with a phone number and find out who's on the other end.
When you'd use it
- A missed call or text from a number you don't recognize.
- Confirming a number you found actually belongs to the right person.
- Screening a caller before you pick up or call back.
How to do it
On the search page, choose the Phone tab and enter the number. You'll get a preview of the owner record tied to that line — name, associated addresses, and other numbers for the same person.
What a number can tell you
- Owner name — who the line is registered or associated with.
- Line type — mobile, landline, or VoIP. VoIP and disposable lines are common with spam.
- Approximate location — the area the number is tied to.
- How recent — whether the association is current or stale.
Spam and robocalls
If a number returns little or maps to a VoIP line with no consistent owner, that's a common signature of a spam or robocall source. A thin record is itself a useful signal.
